Ed Rothstaylor
Summary :
Ed Rothstaylor is the main protagonist of the web novel The Extra’s Academy Survival Guide and was originally a third-tier villain in the game The Failed Swordsman of Sylvania.
He is the son of Duke Krepin Rothstaylor and the older brother of Tanya Rothstaylor.
After being expelled from both his noble family and the Ophilis dormitory due to multiple offenses — such as insulting Princess Penia and interfering with Sylvania Academy's entrance exams — he ends up living in the northern forests near the academy
When the narrator is reincarnated into Ed’s body, he sets his goal to quietly survive and graduate from Sylvania Academy to secure a stable life
Despite starting off weak, Ed trains relentlessly, developing magical skills in fire, wind, and water elements. He also bonds with elemental spirits: Mugg (fire), Merilda (wind), and Reisha (water)
Though Ed tries to avoid entanglements with the main characters, he becomes involved in major events at the academy.
Several female characters, including Lucy Maeril, Yennekar Palerover, and Lortelle Kecheln, develop feelings for him.
His efforts to stick to the original story timeline often unintentionally cause major changes to the game’s events.
Personality-wise, Ed was once arrogant and envious as a noble but transforms into a determined and hardworking person after his downfall.
His primary goal remains peaceful graduation, though he constantly faces obstacles from his past and the unpredictable new path he creates
